What Is A Part Number?

What is a part number and why is it so important? This is a question we do get asked a lot and for a definition please see below:-

A part number (often abbreviated P/N, PN, part no., or part #) is an identifier of a particular part design used in a particular industry. Its purpose is to simplify referencing to that part. A part number unambiguously identifies a part design within a single corporation, and sometimes across several corporations.

For example, when specifying a screw, it is easier to refer to "HSC0424PP" than saying "Hardware, screw, machine, 4-40, 3/4" long, panhead, Phillips".

Essentially a part number is a universal reference number to identify a particular item, ensuring that we are all “singing from the same hymn book”. So what you order is what is supplied negating any ambiguities that may arise through incomplete descriptions.

However to the uninitiated finding a part number can be quite daunting, but at ACS we can help, we have references to all manner of information regarding IT spares and IT parts for all manufacturers. So don’t worry if you can’t find a part number we will find that part for you and guarantee it will be the right part at the right price.

Watch out for future blogs where we will be giving useful information regarding finding part numbers for Acer Spares, Dell Spares, HP Spares , IBM Spares etc..
